Classes

We offer in-person outdoor private classes, weather permitting, at our Gretna VA location. We have a full-size lined field for Skyhoundz Classic, Skyhoundz DiscDogathon, and UpDog training and events.

We also offer ONLINE PRIVATE VIDEO CLASSES via Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime.

We occasionally offer group classes, if requested.

Novice Class - Introduction to the Disc Dog (Frisbee Dog) sport. Canine(s) should have at least some toy or play drive, and should be in good physical condition. The class will focus on basic disc skills for the canine and handler, including canine disc catching and retrieval, disc throwing control and accuracy. Discs must be instructor-approved and canine safe (discs may be available for purchase). Additional topics will include basic canine safety considerations.

Intermediate Class - Canine(s) must be able to catch a disc in flight, and should be in good physical condition. Handler must have basic disc throwing skills. The class will focus on disc throwing control and accuracy, basic trick throws, canine skill development, introduction to typical competition events, and development of a basic freestyle routine. Discs must be instructor-approved and canine safe (discs may be available for purchase). Additional topics will include intermediate-level canine safety considerations.

Expert Class - Canine(s) must be able to consistently catch a disc in flight, and have full retrieval skills. Canine and handler should be in good physical condition. Handler must have a consistently accurate backhand throw, and at least some knowledge of basic trick throws. This class will be competition-oriented, and it is expected that the handler has a serious interest in taking the canine/human skills to a high level. Topics will include advanced trick throws, freestyle routine refinement, improvement of competition skills for a variety of competitive organizations and formats, canine warm-up/cool down/stretching/massage, and benefits of cross-training. Participants will be evaluated to qualify for this class.
